  1. Today I am going to talk about the value of a nickel.

The value of a nickel is worth .5 cents. If you want to get twenty-five cents how many nickels will you have? You will have 5 nickels. The reason why is because, each nickel is worth 5 cents. 5,10,15,20,25(you now have .25 cents). How many nickels make $1.00? 20 nickels make $1.00 and the reason why 20 nickels can get you $1.00 because each nickel is worth 5 cents and when you count out 20 nickels each 5 nickel will make 1 quarter, let's count and see, 5,10,15,20,25(1quarter) 30,35,40,45,50(2quarters) 55,60,65,70,75(3quarters) 80,85,90,95,100(4quarters) so now, you have $1.00 in nickels.

  2. Today I will teach about the dime. The dime is the smallest coin of all and is silver. The value of the dime is 0.10. You will need 10 dimes to get to $1.00. The dime is after the nickel and before the quarter.
FUN FACT: Our 32nd president(Roosevelt) is on the front on the dime.

  3. Today I am going to talk about a quarter. The quarter is the biggest coin of the four common coins. The quarter is also a silver coin. The value of a quarter is .25 cents. Two quarters make .50 cents. Three quarters make .75 cents. Four quarters make 1 dollar. Since the value of a quarter is bigger than the other coins, it take less quarters to make 1 dollar compared to a penny, nickel, and a dime. President George Washington, who was our very first president, is on the front of the quarter. An eagle with its wings spread out is on the back of the quarter. It is also known as the Presidential Coat of Arms.
Review: Ben goes to the gumball machine to buy a piece of bubblegum. The machine has a label that says each piece is .50 cents. How many quarters would Ben need to get a gumball? Each quarter is worth ,25 cents. So 2 quarters would get a piece of gum from the gumball machine.
Review: Sally went to the store a want to buy a candy bar. The candy bar costs $1.25. How many quarters would Sally need? We know that four quarters make 1 dollar so how many quarters would we need to finish buying the candy bar? Right, 1 quarters would be need after 1 dollar. So there would be 5 quarters total to buy the candy car.

  4. Today I will be presenting to you the penny. The penny is unique because it is the only coin that is brown. It also has the value of 0.01 cent. It is the smallest in value so therefore it takes the most to equal different values. It takes 5 pennies to equal 1 nickel(0.05). It takes 10 pennies to equal 1 dime(0.10). It takes 25 pennies to equal one quarter(0.25). It would take 100 pennies to equal 1 dollar(1.00). Pennies are also unique because they have our 16th president on them President Abraham Lincoln.
